On the entrance way there are some columns which contain inscriptions which are the cities administrate of rules, Ephesus is a significant city in biblical stories. Here the Ephesian worship to the false God Artemis and so Paul came here to preach the word of Christ denouncing the pagan gods of Ephesus.The temple of Artemis was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, a church constructed by emperor Justinian over the grave of the biblical Saint John was one of the magnificent monument of the Middle Ages.Allegedly, John spent the last years of his century long life here and wrote the fourth book of the new testaments and died here. Mary the mother of Jesus Christ is also said to have lived in the house in Ephesus, a place which is one of Turkeys main pilgrimages today. This fact does not trouble modern day Turks who also recognize the historical events of Christianity and hold Jesus and Mary in high esteem.As legend has it, when Jesus was crucified amidst the house and chives of the Jerusalem mob, he gave the responsibility of his mother to his disciples Saint John.
